Centre for the Study of the Country House
I became Founding Director of the Centre for the Study of the Country House in 2003. I set up the centre and designed the MA programme. The first year graduated in January 2008. There are currently 20 students on the MA and fifty or more people attend study days at Lamport Hall, which I have designed to bring top-quality cutting-edge researchers to lecture to the general public. I also invite and co-host with Mr George Drye, CEO of the Lamport Hall Conservation Trust, a prestigious annual lecture. The speakers thus far have included Dr Simon Thurley, CEO English Heritage; Dr Charles Saumarez Smith, then Director of the National Gallery; Professor Maurice Howard, President of the Society of Antiquaries; Dr John Goodall, Architectural Editor of Country Life Magazine.
